Cold Water
My Pool
February 5, 2004 - Thursday

Well it was getting kind of late and I hadn't taken a daily picture so as I wandered around my house trying to come up with something I decided to go outside and see the pool. It was freezing out there, actually it was about 54F degrees but that is considered "freezing" by Texas standards. I decided to try to experiment with delayed shutter speeds to try to get a cool night time picture of the pool. I tried a bunch of different settings and finally found one that seemed to be perfect for the situation. The picture below is using a shutter speed of 2 seconds and since my body was shivering I knew I couldn't keep my camera completely still long enough to get a clean crisp picture. With that in mind, I propped up my camera on a garbage can, wedged my car keys under the back side of the camera to get the right angle, then hit the shutter release button with one finger and stepped away... then viola... I captured the picture below.

Grant's Farewell Party
The Harp Pub
February 4, 2004 - Wednesday

A good friend and Co-ed Flag Football teammate is moving to Denver, Colorado this week and the whole team gathered at The Harp Pub to properly send him off. Every team member of Ready, Willing and Abel that made the trip to the pub signed a Houston Texans Inaugural Season football which was given to Grant as a memento. And Yes, that really was our team name and No, I did not choose it, honestly. Anyways, since our team was plagued with injuries the entire season it seemed only natural that the football sustain some injuries of its own, hence the stitches and a couple of Band-Aids. "RWA - The best loosing streak ever!!"

Poker Night
My Living Room
February 3, 2004 - Tuesday

For the past few weeks Tuesday nights have been designated as Poker Night for some friends and I. This is the night where a week full of bragging and smack talk all comes to an end and you have to put your money where your mouth is so to speak. The game of choice is Texas Holdem, this the type of poker that is played in the World Series of Poker as seen on ESPN. Forrest and I were the last two people in the game left and I was dealt an A K and luckily got a Q J 10 to drop on the flop. After the last two community cards were shown, Forrest went All-In and bet everything he had. I called his bet and my Ace high straight beat his two pair and I won all the marbles and most importantly bragging rights until next Tuesday.

The NFL Experience
George R. Brown Convention Center
January 25, 2004 - Sunday

Super Bowl 38 was held here in Houston this year and we went to the NFL Experience which was held in the GRB Convention Center. First thing I noticed was kids, kids, kids and more kids! There were kids everywhere and their parents were nowhere to be found! I guess the NFL Experience also dubbed as a child drop off day care center. There were lots of cool things to see and do at the event and the worst thing is that shortly after taking these 2 pictures, my camera batteries ran out!

Houston Aeros Game
The Toyota Center
January 24, 2004 - Saturday

I made the trek downtown to the Toyota Center with some friends to go see the Houston Aeros play the Syracuse Crunch. This was only like my second ice hockey game I had ever been to. The game was very cool and there were two fights! Woohoo! That's what we went to see! Aeros won 4-1.

Office Space
Austin, Texas
January 11, 2004 - Sunday

This is the actual office building where the movie Office Space was filmed at. That is by far one of my favorite movies ever made and when I stumbled across the address on the internet, I made it a point to stop by and check it out the next time I was in Austin...

The Driskill Hotel
Austin, Texas
January 10, 2004 - Saturday

This hotel was built in 1886 and cost an estimated $400,000. This hotel had a very eerie feeling since everything was a reminder of how things were in the early 1900s. Even the creaking in the solid wood floors made my hair stand on end. It is widely known that this hotel is haunted by a number of ghosts...

The Oasis Restaurant
Austin, Texas
December 26, 2003 - Friday

The Oasis Restaurant in Austin is by far one of the best places in Texas to watch the sunset. The main restaurant is built on top of a cliff that looks onto Lake Travis. There is an array of different wooden patio levels built off of the face of the cliff so that there is not a single bad table in the house. As soon as the sun has disappeared beneath the horizon, workers ring a large bell which is everyone's clue to hold up your drink and toast the sunset...
