Mecom
Fountains
Hermann Park
September 9, 2004 - Thursday
After dinner tonight Lisa and I decided to make a trek out
and find something worth photographing for today's PAD entry. As it
turns out we ended up in Hermann Park which is about 20 miles or so
from home. It was a decent drive but the scenery here in the park at
night is very nice so it was definitely worth the drive. Plus it got
us out of the house for a little while.

I always have my tripod on hand in the back of my car so I got it
out, mounted my 10D, and went to look for a prime location to shoot
from. There was some kind of candle light vigil going on here near
the fountains and we never did get to read the people's hand made
signs. Apparently this area around Mecom Fountains is very popular
place for these sorts of gatherings.

Well after about 30 minutes or so of wandering around Hermann Park
and photographing various things we decided to pack it up and call
it a night. We both work in the morning so we thought it was best to
cut our photographic exploration a little short so that we can be
sure to be on time in the morning.

Table
For Two..
Red Lobster
September 8, 2004 - Wednesday
Tonight Lisa and I couldn't decide what we wanted for
dinner and pretty much just ended up here at Red Lobster. It has
been at least 2 years since I had been to one do I opted to get a
lobster tail. As far as seafood is concerned, I still prefer crab
over lobster.

How do you like their first class, cutting edge salt and pepper
shakers?! For some reason I don't think Lisa will approve of a set
like this for the new house. Maybe I'll have to sneak a set in. Just
kidding...
Tuesday
the 14th is the day that has been set for our closing on the
new house. I can't wait to get it over with so that we can
finally say we got it. I know there is a lot that we want to
do to it before we get moved in so I want to get started as
soon as possible.

Two
Sisters...
Our Bike Ride
September 7, 2004 - Tuesday
Lisa and I went on a good long bike ride this evening. We
are in the process of closing on a house and have been very stressed
with what colors to paint and color of carpet to use. So with that
in mind, we had a light dinner and packed up the bikes. The weather
this evening was absolutely perfect. It was about 79 degrees or so
with almost zero humidity which made the ride very comfortable.

Here's a pair of sisters as I will call them that we met on our bike
ride. After about 2 miles or so we decided to pull over and take a
quick break and enjoy the evening. That's when I noticed these two
flowers. I had my Canon S400 on my hip so I pulled it out and took
this photo. I love having the convenience of this small pocket sized
camera which still produces very nice images in itself.

Lonely
Bench...
Harvest Plaza
September 6, 2004 - Monday
Today as we ran around town and ran a couple of small
errands I stopped off at a park in Katy named Harvest Plaza. It's
just a small little paved area that is lightly landscaped, nothing
major.

I had never taken the time to get out of the car and take a look
around so I grabbed my 10D and hopped out for a bit. It was
extremely hot out so we did spend too much time looking around.

My
Pet Rocks...
Near Memorial Park
September 5, 2004 - Sunday
This is probably the only pet I can take care of with my
busy schedule. Even then I am not sure if they would even survive.
Hehee. Just Kidding. These smooth black river rock were near a
fountain in the Memorial area and thought they would make for a nice
subject for today.

Hearing the water flowing was very relaxing and made me wish that we
had some kind of natural resource nearby that had the same effect on
me. I think it is about time for another trip up to the hill country
and find some nice waterfall and river scenes to photograph.

Sharp
Dressed Man...
A Tie Guy
September 4, 2004 - Saturday
Lisa and I have a wedding to attend today so I had to dust
off the old tie and get all dressed up for the occasion. I am not
required to wear a tie to work so my entire tie collection is made
up of two ties. The only reason I have two ties is because while
getting dressed for the last wedding we attended I couldn't find my
one single tie so I had to run out and buy one on the way to the
church.

I know that is very bad for me to say but oh well, that's the truth.
Hehee. Anyways the wedding was very nice and we had a great time at
the reception. The bride and groom really out did themselves on the
planning and everything went as planned.

Dude
I Got A Dell..
My Photo Lab
September 3, 2004 - Friday
Before we took my trip to New Orleans I made and order
through Dell and got a much needed new computer. I had been working
on a P3 450mhz pc with about 256mb of RAM for the past 5 years or
so. Now that I have gotten very heavy in digital photography my old
pc just wasn't working out. So after lots of debating I finally made
the decision on a new pc which included a P4 3.2ghz processor and a
whopping 1gig of RAM.
This
computer flat out screams! Well considering what I have to
compare it against that statement probably doesn't mean too
much. Other items I got on my pc includes a CD/RW drive, a
DVD/RW drive, 150g hard drive, 250g external hard drive for
image backups as well as a new speaker system and color
printer. In the past, I built my own systems from scratch
but opted not to do so this time around. It was very nice
having the whole system arrive to my door ready to be
plugged in.

Almost
Famous
My 15 minutes
September 2, 2004 - Thursday
Today is the day that the article about me winning the
Dave Matthews contest made it to print. I have been very eager to
see how it came out and finally after work today I got a chance to
go pick up a copy of The Houston Chronicle. If you guys would like
to read the full article GO HERE I
posted both the full printed article as well as the online website
version.

I thought it was pretty cool to get my name out there like this and
hopefully the website plug will help generate more web traffic. For
the record, I only bought two copies of the newspaper and not 30
like my friends thought I would have. Hehee.

Depth
Of Field
My Bedroom
September 1, 2004 - Wednesday
I slapped on my 50mm f1.4 lens and set it to wide open and
snapped this photo to check out the depth of field This little lens
always seems to be impressive to me and it should make for some
great portraits. Maybe one day I can get Lisa to cooperate and she
can be my studio model for an hour or so.

People pics are often one area of photography I kind of shy away
from. Maybe it has something to do with me feeling as though I am
invading someone's personal space with my camera. I don't know what
it is exactly but I do know I seem to be a little intimidated by it.
I'll try to shoot some portraits this weekend and seem how they come
out. I know Lisa will be happy to be my guinea pig.

Just
Got The Joke!
DMB Photo Pass
August 31, 2004 - Tuesday
As you guys know I won a Photo Pass for a Dave Matthews
Band concert that happened a couple of weeks ago in Selma, Texas. I
bought a tour poster there at the show since it had the date and
venue information printed on it. I figured I could get the poster
matted along with my photo pass, my ticket stub and a couple of
5x7's of the photos I took that night. An extra bonus is that the
show was the same day as my Birthday so the framed piece would make
for a great souvenir from that night.

So here is an image of the Photo Pass. What is funny is that I've
looked at this pass many times since that night and never paid too
much attention to the writing on the pass. I just figured it was a
code that varies from night to night so that they can spot
counterfeits. Well, tonight as I was getting my articles together so
that I didn't accidentally lose anything it finally registered in my
mind as to what the code meant. Take a look at it real quick before
I spoil it, see if you can figure it out. Ok, here it goes. It is
short for "Pimpin' Ain't Easy". I guess someone over there
has a sense of humor because not once did I even notice it. I bet
the other 3 photogs that were issued them as well missed it too...
hehee.

Something's
Not Right
Traumatized Skagen
August 30, 2004 - Monday
Apparently this past Saturday when I was riding in the
boat I decided to put my watch in my pocket. With it being in my
pocket, I was assured that I would not end up with a bright white
band around my wrist since I knew I would be tanned. When I got home
I forgot to remove it from my pocket before I threw my clothes in
the laundry room.

So anyways I get a call from Lisa today asking me if I had been
looking for my watch and in fact I tried to find it this morning
before I went to work. I told her that I had and just knew that she
had found it although I had no idea where. As it turns out my watch
got thrown in the washer and dryer along with the shorts that they
were in. I had asked Lisa if it still worked and I was relieved that
she said yes but then she followed her answer with "Uhhh.. the
whole face rotated inside about 60 degrees". Doh! Well I just
spent about 5 minutes or so and popped the back off and got it all
lined up properly. Pheww...

Motocross
Action
Three Palms Extreme Sports
Complex
August 29, 2004 - Sunday
Lisa and I decided to head back out to Three Palms today
and catch some Motocross action. This place has a huge motocross
track which made it nice to shoot. I could safely sit on the
sidelines and shoot the riders as they passed by.

The 70-200mm f2.8L lens came in very =handy today just as it did
yesterday. This lens is getting a lot of use this weekend, that's
for sure! I'd like to make it back out there on a race night. I
think that would be very cool to check out.

Out
On The Water
Three Palms Extreme Sports
Complex
August 28, 2004 - Saturday
Earlier in the week I had noticed in the local paper that
a large wakeboarding competition was coming to Houston this coming
weekend. I emailed the main guy in charge of the competition and
asked about the event because I thought about attending to
photograph the event. He was very supportive and told me that I
would be allowed to ride in the tow boat and shoot from there. So
with that being said, I spent most of my day today in a
brand new Master Craft X Star boat.
I
picked up a two different wakeboarding magazines yesterday
in order to get a feel for the type of shots to look for.
The magazines helped flatten out my learning curve a bit and
gave me a great jump on today's competition.
|
One
thing I noticed in most of the magazines was that the
majority of the photos had the riders in mid air performing
tricks. I wanted to get a couple like that as well as some
regular non big air photos in today.
|
I
had a blast out there today and met some really cool people.
I can't wait for the next local competition because I really
enjoyed broadening my repertoire so to speak. This was the
first time I had ever seen wakeboarding in person and I was
extremely impressed!

Jailhouse
Rock
On The West Side
August 27, 2004 - Friday
I thought this was a very cool looking birdhouse so I
pulled over and took a few photos of it. Once I close on my new
house I will definitely have to put one in the back yard so that I
have some wildlife to photograph from my back porch.
When
we were in Old Town Spring a couple of months back, I
remember that they had a ton of different variations of
birdhouses for sale. Looks like we will have to make another
trip out there pretty soon.

Play
Time!
Lakemont Subdivision
August 26, 2004 - Thursday
I didn't have a playground like this when I was growing
up! These kids have it good now. I'm jealous. You almost need
an engineering degree to put one of these things together.
On a side note, I went and put a contract on a new house tonight. I
am extremely excited about the new home and can't wait to get in
there and start working on it. The home is about 14 years old and is
in a great neighborhood.
